This is the recipe that Grandma told me in her kitchen late one night. It's the one she made up herself and it's never been written down before.

Ingredients

  • 1 400g jar Paul Newman's Own Sauce Tomato, Basil & Garlic
  • 500 grams beef mince
  • 1 large onion
  • 6 large potatoes peeled & boiled
  • frozen peas
  • tomato skinned & sliced
  • tasty cheddar cheese grated
  • salt & pepper

Instructions

  1. Drain & mash the potato. Add 1 tbsp butter & milk to get spreading consistency.
  2. Microwave enough frozen peas to cover the mince for 2min. Spread over the mince in the casserole dish.
  3. Spread the potato over the peas.
  4. Cover the potato with the sliced tomato. Season with salt & pepper. Then cover with grated cheese
  5. Bake in moderate oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown on the top. Instruction Image
  6. Brown the mince. Put the peeled potatoes on to boil.
  7. Blend the sauce & onion until smooth. Instruction Image
  8. Add the blended sauce and onion to the browned mince. Add a sauce jar of water, salt & pepper to taste and simmer 30 minutes.
  9. Add 1 tbsp. plain flour to mince mixture to thicken it. Pour into casserole dish.
