This is another of Mum's recipes - I love it, which is why I rarely make it. I eat it.
Notes
- We always use walnuts for the nuts in the recipe. Keep a few to sprinkle on the top before baking this if you want it to look a little fancy.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups dates chopped
- 1 cup nuts chopped
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 1/2 cups flour plain
- 1 tsp baking powder
Instructions
- Combine the first 6 ingredients in a mixing bowl.
- Sprinkle the baking soda over the top of the combined ingredients.
- Cover with the boiling water and stir well. LET COOL.
- Sift flour & baking powder.
Blend into cooled mixture.
- Pour into lined & greased loaf pan and bake at 180° C for about 1 hour.
