Crumb Cake

This is one of my mother's recipes and an old favourite of mine (maybe because I like currants). It's nice to have with a cup of tea or coffee.
Notes
- to sour milk - add 1 tbsp lemon juice or white vinegar to 1 cup of fresh milk
- you can use buttermilk instead of sour milk

Ingredients
- 2 cups Plain flour
- 1 cup White sugar
- 3/4 cup Butter
- 1 Egg
- 1 cup Sour milk
- 1/2 tsp Baking soda
- 2 tsp Baking powder
- 1 tsp Ground cloves
- 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
- 1 cup Currants
Instructions
- Combine the first 3 ingredients and set 1 cup aside for topping.
- To the remainder of those first 3 ingredients, add the egg, sour milk, spices, baking soda, baking powder & currants. Mix well.
- Pour batter into 20cm square cake pan.
- Sprinkle the mixture that was set aside in Step 1 over the top of the batter.
- Bake in a moderate oven until done (skewer stuck in the cake will come out clean).
